Accessible events & urban spaces: mobile pathways according to DIN 18040

Whether it's a large-scale event, city festival, temporary beach access, or open-air cultural event: accessibility is now a key criterion in approval processes and tenders. With TRAIL-MATE, cities, municipalities, bulk buyers, and organizers receive an immediate, ready-to-use, mobile pathway solution that is aligned with the safety objectives of DIN 18040 – in particular Part 1 (publicly accessible buildings and outdoor facilities) and Part 3 (public traffic and open space).

Your advantages in the approval process and in practice

  • Suitable passage widths: A single CLASSIC panel at 90 cm complies with the minimum width for passages according to DIN 18040-1. Two panels side-by-side joined via the Velcro system provide 180 cm – covering both the 150 cm sidewalk width as well as the passing width for two wheelchairs according to DIN 18040-3.
  • Trip-free paths: With a panel thickness of only about 2–2.5 mm, there are virtually no edges. On challenging natural ground such as grass, sand, or gravel, the panels create a level, stepless surface for wheelchairs, rollators, and strollers.
  • Maximum load-bearing capacity and emergency routes: Despite their low dead weight, the panels support up to 3.5 tons. The paths remain stable for wheelchairs, walking aids, and heavy e-scooters, and in an emergency, they are also accessible for rescue and supply vehicles.
  • Sustainable and residue-free: Unlike gravel paths, asphalt, or wooden constructions, TRAIL-MATE does not seal the ground. The system is therefore also suitable for sensitive areas such as spa parks, nature reserves, or heritage-protected zones.

Cost-efficiency for municipalities and organizers

Thanks to the tool-free Velcro system, even kilometer-long stretches can be assembled and dismantled in a short time with minimal personnel. The system is UV and saltwater resistant, extremely durable, and can be stored highly efficiently on Euro pallets – thanks to the thin panel design, a large section of path fits onto a single pallet.
